Driving with cracked, chipped, or broken auto glass is difficult and even illegal depending on how serious the issue is. Auto glass cracking and chipping is fairly common in trucks and other vehicles. The debris thrown up by other vehicles on the highway is enough to chip or crack your windshield.

When this happens, many people will find themselves wondering if the problem can be fixed and whether it's worth fixing. Fixing your truck's auto glass as quickly as possible can save you a lot of stress in the future.

Cracks Get Worse with Time

Perhaps the most important reason why you should get your truck's auto glass fixed as quickly as possible is that cracks tend to get worse with time. A small crack creates a point of weakness in the glass. The crack can start to spread out from this point and can quickly cover most of your windshield. Road vibrations, a fender bender, or getting hit by other debris is enough to worsen any existing cracks in your windshield.

Unfortunately, there is only a small window of opportunity within which cracks in auto glass can be repaired. If the cracks exceed a certain depth, replacement is often the only viable solution.

Many people will attempt to fix cracks in their auto glass by themselves. Acrylic nail polish and super glue have both been used by people to fix cracks in their auto glass. These are a good temporary solution. The use of super glue, for example, can help to prevent the crack from spreading out while you look for an auto glass repair shop.

However, such solutions should not be considered permanent. In the long run, such repairs are unlikely to survive the stresses that come with truck operations.

If your auto glass has suffered any sort of damage, the best thing to do is to find an auto glass repair shop immediately. In a good repair shop, the first thing they'll do is assess the damage to know if repair is still a viable option.

Many truck owners may not want to hear this, but if the crack in your auto glass is very deep, the only solution will be to replace it. However, if it's still possible to salvage the glass, the people at the repair shop should have access to solutions that will perform much better than super glue or acrylic nail polish.
